Thing 23 - The End

My favorite was shortening the URLs. I was familiar with most of the Things and have used most of them in one way or another. I would like to put some them to use in the library.
I had trouble with the Blogger software on my office computer and had to do most of my blogs from my home computer. I did the activities and waited to do the blog updates at home. The uploads and links wouldn't work on my office computer. The cloud stuff came in handy since I was using two computers. I might not have finished if I hadn't been home on sick leave,

As much as I hate writing on blogs, it was interesting to see other peoples response and creations. Very creative projects and names for their blogs! We have talent out there in the library field.

I am always interested in learning and would look forward to partipating in another series.

Thing 22- Podcasts

I am familiar with podcast and have created some using Camtasia. I searched for podcasts on library instruction using Google. Found some very interesting one done on everything from how to use the library catalog, databases and tours of the library facilities. Most didn't have the option of a RSS feed. I could use some of the podcasts by directing the student to some of them for extended explanations.

Thing 21 - Mashups

This was fun. Even tho I am grapically challenged. It makes it much easier when you the pre-design already there for you and you just plug in the information.

I created a trading card - of course I didn't use my photograph!

Thing 20 - Tagging and Social Bookmarking

I already have my bookmark organized in Windows 7 and it pretty useful. I can see that one of these services would be great for portability. It would be great for students to organize the internet research for projects although we try to steer them toward our databases first.

I like StumbleUpon because it can learn your likes and dislikes.

Our library organizes materials but we don't use social bookmarking services as far as I know.

Thing 19 - Multimedia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeCg1sff0HQ

I searched You Tube looking for multimedia created by Virginia Academic libraries.  I found several library tour videos and the one I chose the one UVA ILL department created give a tour of their ILL service. They did a great job on the video.
Sometimes there seems to be problems getting the video to load and play. YouTube techies can seem to keep up with volume.

Thing 18 - Audio Books

I read the article and I agree that there are too many formats that can be confusing. You have to have the right player for the chosen vendor. It can be confusing to some people.
Since I have use Overdrive, I chose to investigate LibriVox for the public domain. I search for Mark Twain, one of my favorite authors. It was fun! I used to use audio books when I made car trips but I got so involved in the books, my driving concentration suffered. Not good for others on the road!

I have a blind friend who loves all the new providers of audio content. It has given her so much pleasure!
